Grant Awarding Policy & Application Form

GRANT AWARDING POLICY - Adopted 21st October 2013

1. The council will decide each year whether it wishes to make provision in the budget for a sum of money to be used for grant purposes.

2. At the Annual Parish Meeting, via the newsletter and the notice board the council will make groups in the Parish aware if there will be money available in the following financial year to allow grant applications, using the application form available from the clerk.

3. The closing date for applications to be submitted will be no later than 31st October to ensure there is sufficient time to consider the application and include the figure in the upcoming budget.

4. Council must be aware what the grant is for to ensure that it is a proven need and not a general request for money, and to check that they have a legal power under which to make the payments.

5. Resolve the specific amount to be included in the budget for the following year, bearing in mind that Council can levy a set amount per head of the electorate, under section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972, to cover any expenditure that has no specific power.

6. Anyone that receives a grant of more than £1000 will be required to update the Council in writing, within 12 months showing exactly what they have done with the grant.

7. All applications are to be addressed to the clerk, at the official council address, and not to an individual Councillor or Chairman.

8. The Clerk is to check that all the information is gathered that is required to determine an application, prior to any request being considered by the Council.

9. The Clerk will notify successful and unsuccessful applicants in writing by 31 January each year, all grants being payable after 1st April.
